Summer Tips to Beat the Heat

If you are new to San Diego, it probably hasn’t taken you long to realize how dry and hot it can get throughout the day. This summer there will be tons of outdoor activities. Have fun but be safe. Here are 4 tips to help you and your family beat the heat!

Before you and the children head to the playground, make sure that everyone puts on some sunscreen. Pay attention to the label. SPF (Sun Protection Factor) is a measurement of sunburn protection. To be safe, apply your sunscreen every two hours.

Drink Water

Sports drinks have a lot of sugar. Some have the same amount of sugar as coke or even doughnuts. Water is best to fight dehydration. Drink 6 to 8 glasses per day to ward off exhaustion and dehydration.

Use Your Time Wisely

Try to plan all of your outdoor activities in the morning. If you can, avoid going out during the hottest times of the day.

Listen To Your Body

If you begin to experience signs of heat stroke (Nausea, not sweating, altered state of mind), seek immediate medical attention. Pay close attention to your children. Do not leave them unattended in the heat at any time no matter how long.  Heat Stroke can happen to anyone at any time.
