San Diego’s St. Patrick’s Day Celebrations
March 14, 2013
Just because we’re not known for being Irish doesn’t mean we don’t celebrate like we’re Irish! The Irish Congress of Southern California is the leading organization working year around to bring the residents of San Diego the St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Irish Festival in Balboa Park.
Be sure to make your way out to Balboa Park on Saturday, March 16, for the 33rd Annual St. Patrick’s Day Parade and Festival. The Parade starts at 10:30 a.m. from Sixth Avenue and Juniper Street, travels north on Fifth Avenue to Upas, then over to Sixth Avenue and South on Sixth, and will end at Juniper Street. The 2013 Parade Theme is Celebrating the Gaelic Athletic Association–the Irish operating authority of Gaelic games like hurling and rounders, so celebrate appropriately.
While the parade and festival are for all ages, young and old, the San Diego ShamRock is for adults 21 and up. The Gaslamp Block Party will take place on the actual holiday, Sunday, March 17, from 2:00 p.m. to midnight. Over 30 restaurants and bars will be participating along with performances from local and national artists on the many stages.
To say the least, it’s going to be a fun St. Paddy’s Day weekend in San Diego!
